CCC SPIRITUAL ART CAMP, 30 July-3 August 2012

Christ Church Cathedral
318 East Fourth Street
Cincinnati, OH 45202-4299

This was the vision of Michael Thompson, teaching artists Radha,Cindy and lots of help from Jane Thompson, Beth Mendez and a generous grant from Christ Church Cathedral. We could not have done this with out Christ Church Cincinnati, Volunteers and with an enrollment at 40 children ages from 7 year to 11 years, CCC Spiritual Art Camp week is more than 15 times bigger ...40 children, not 13, and as it turns out, 5 times as many contact hours as it runs from 9:00 AM -3:00 PM.
So.

We have promises from a number of people to assist at certain times during the week and am seeking several more volunteer assistants who are sharp, willing to learn and skilled with children. Every member of our team is charged to effectively guide the children with purpose and enthusiasm to their gaining self expression skills, and having fun in the process. The children will learn to see the constellation of spiritual elements and patterns all around us, but also to learn how to use them in individual expressions of spirituality. We will look at the variety of expressions found in religions of the world and discover together the common themes which enrich all religions. And then, through activities, develop the capacity to recognize and appreciate, and to make a personal sacred space. Teaching how to move, and how to express oneself in different media and to use different tools is part of the journey. What they learn during this week we hope will compel them to continue their own self-education after they leave the camp, and for the rest of their lives. This is not to be like any other art camp I have been associated with, it is something that has developed out of my growing conviction that there is desperate need for such immersion experiences for children.
