Fear and Gender in Public Space

Fear and Gender in Public Space Is an ongoing international research, education and curatorial project since 2003 by Veronica Wiman. A series of academic courses/workshops, exhibitions and interventions on the concept of Fear, Gender and Public Space in Los Angeles, Helsinki, Banff, Cali (Colombia), Johannesburg, Bangalore, The project investigates theoretical and practical aspects of the interdisciplinary, bringing practitioners from various fields together such as art, architecture, craft and design. With diverse artistic practice, the project with productions and workshops aims for an encounter in dialogue and practice among the participants, artists and local communities.

Beginning from a thematical site: Fear and Gender in Public Space, intends to raise questions as purpose, power, possibilities, difficulties, language, communication with various cultural production. Bringing in and encountering various departments in society, this dialogue and questions are taken further and put into environmental realities. Academic Courses/workshops have been given in Art Academy in Helsinki, School of Arts Witswatersrand in Johannesburg, Konstfack school of art and design, Stockholm, University of San Francisco, Shristi School of Art and Design, Bangalore.
