Much of my printed work is made of many layers. This complexity if difficult to appreciate as a viewer without long periods of observation. This Mudras Series 1 Mono Print has been imaged by a high quality scanner and is shown here with an online zoomer.
The language of the hands is probably the oldest in the world, its traditions reaching further back than those of the spoken word. The idea of using hands is very universal and a tool to communicate ones emotions. This work of mine is called Mudras or hand gestures. The idea of using hands is very universal and a tool to communicate ones emotions. Here I am trying to draw parallels in the developments and use of such hand gestures in Hindu rituals and in another ancient expression used in the Indian classical dance called Bharatanatyam.
