The language of the hands is probably the oldest in the world, its traditions reaching further back than those of the spoken word.   The idea of using hands is very universal and a tool to communicate ones emotions.  This work of mine is called Mudras or hand gestures.   The idea of using hands is very universal and a tool to communicate ones emotions.  Here I am trying to draw parallels in the developments and use of such hand gestures in Hindu rituals and in another ancient expression used in the Indian classical dance called Bharatanatyam.  Monoprint on paper; 30 x 29 inches.  Click on image below to launch the viewer.
